Prenatal Pregnancy Yoga

Designed and paced to meet the needs of mothers-to-be. Pregnancy and motherhood can be demanding on the body, Prenatal Yoga is ideal for women looking to stay in shape whilst preparing their bodies for labour and birth. Expect postures that assist with connecting with the pelvic floor and strengthening key areas of the body to help with easier birth and the physical demands of motherhood. Breathing techniques and relaxation methods are also introduced to help the mind and body consciously relax in preparation of labour and providing an opportunity to connect with your unborn baby, as well as becoming part of a community of other mothers-to-be. No previous yoga experience required. Starting from 1st December 2018.

With Sabine Lau

A Mum-to-be can absolutely enjoy a therapeutic aromatherapy massage. The addition of essential oils into a pregnancy massage session can help alleviate a host of conditions a pregnant woman may present with, and result in a more powerful massage experience, assisting you to fully embrace this special stage of your life. The session includes a consultation covering medical history, conditions of pregnancy and lifestyle. The therapist will then create a tailor-made oil blend specific to your needs. After care and home treatment may also be suggested for you. The massage is available from 15 weeks to 40 weeks of pregnancy.

Breastfeeding consults

Breastfeeding is the natural and normal way of feeding infants and human milk is the milk made specifically for human infants. The vast majority of mothers are perfectly capable of breastfeeding their babies exclusively for about six months. In fact, most mothers should be able to produce more than enough milk. Unfortunately, outdated hospital policies and routines based on bottle-feeding still predominate here in Hong Kong and make breastfeeding difficult, even impossible, for too many mothers and babies. Too frequently also, these mothers blame themselves. For breastfeeding to be well and properly established, getting off to the best start from the first hours & days can make all the difference in the world.

A Lactation expert can help to support you during this time to overcome any difficulties, helping you enjoy your baby and the special relationship that breastfeeding offers.

A Breastfeeding Expert can help with some of the following:

  • physiology of lactation

  • positioning and latching

  • early weeks of breastfeeding

  • common breastfeeding problems

  • illness in the baby and mother

  • breastfeeding in special circumstances

Placenta encapsulation is nature's way of helping women heal and restore energy after birth. The placenta produces all of the hormones during pregnancy; once it's birthed, you have a sudden and drastic drop in hormones. This can lead to decreased milk supply, sadness or "baby blues," fatigue, low iron, among other things. Placenta pills may balance out your hormones and moderate your mood, energy, and physical healing leading to a happier and more energetic postpartum period.

Placenta capsules have been reported by mothers to:

  • encourage a quick and healthy milk supply

  • significantly reduce post-birth bleeding

  • reduce stress levels

  • prevent the baby blues and post-partum depression

  • decrease in bleeding

  • leave new mothers feeling calmer

A doula, also known as a birth companion, birth coach or post-birth supporter, is a non-medical person who stays with and assists a woman before, during, or after childbirth, to provide emotional support and physical help if needed. They also may provide support to the mother's partner and family.

A doula will help you prepare you to feel confident in your birthing journey; will help and guide you through the labour process; stay with you throughout your labour, offering emotional care and comfort measures to create the best conditions for birth. Beside her partner, there may be no other person to provide a continuous presence, and the doula, unlike a doctor, a nurse, or a midwife, has no other obligation during labor other than the woman in labor. A doula’s purpose is to support women and their physical, emotional, spiritual and social needs during pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

There is no other time in life when the power of the mind and body connection can be so acutely observed as in birth. It is the time when a mother’s emotional state can directly influence, not only her experience, but also the way her body is working with birth and vice versa. The mind controls our physiology; the body is subjected to the mental processes.

Mind –  body specialist, Dr James Gordon, states that the mind and body are essentially inseparable:

“The brain and peripheral nervous system, the endocrine and immune systems and indeed all the organs of our body and all the emotional responses we have, share a common chemical language and are constantly communicating with one another”.

This awareness of the mind -body connection helps mothers and couples to re-frame their beliefs to think differently, and to think more positively about birth. They learn to eliminate the fear, stress, anxiety and tension that can inhibit labour and birth.

Calmbirth® is a stand-alone program that understands the mind and body connection in childbirth and how a woman’s emotional state influences the birth both mentally and physically. There is no haphazard placement of birth strategies that ‘just seem to work’. As the Calmbirth® program is founded on research from neuroscience, midwifery, obstetrics and epigenetics; and uses the extensive understanding of the relaxation response and its influence on birth.  So, it is clinically and scientifically proven. As a result, Calmbirth® has been recognised by the birthing institutions as one of the most holistic, thorough and collaboratively designed course that addresses all the needs of birthing couples on an emotional and physical level.

HypnoBirthing® is a tried and proven method that guides and prepares a woman in giving birth in a peaceful and extraordinarily beautiful manner. It is a program that considers the psychological, as well as the physical, well-being of the mother, her birth partner and the newborn.
